the myth of the weaker sex
graduation project

To this day western society still has a clear hierarchy in which women are seen as the 'weaker' sex. Mainly men find themselves in leadership. To be taken seriously and come across as ' powerful' as a women, she dresses herself after the male silhouette which can also be considered a power symbol, namely 'the business suit'. Looking from a distance, however, we can say that the fact that a woman becomes 'more powerful' by wearing a suit is a manufactured story, otherwise known as a 'myth'. Women are capable of performing the same functions as men, in fact, women are generally smarter than men. The power seen in social society through the symbol of power, the suit, is already within women themselves. My collection reveals female power the way I see it. Vulnerability, elegance and organic shapes. From the draped men's suits, I reveal more femininity per outfit and map the 'myth' throughout the collection taking inspiration from Greek mythology, goddesses and sculptures.
